Scavi & Ray Sparking English Wine

A celebratory Christmas lunch today at Wright Brothers in Spitalfields. I had crab (my favourite food) and really wanted a crisp, ice-cold Chablis to go with it, but then I saw this on the menu and decided instead to keep lunch teetotal – a good and rare thing in the middle of December’s flood of boozy events! It was described as non-alcoholic Prosecco, but I think that title does this an injustice as it’s actually rather good and tastes nothing like Prosecco. It’s got a pleasant fruity flavour of green apple, lemon and honeysuckle and has a good level of acid so it’s nicely balanced. It’s a dealcoholised English wine with added sugar so it’s not really dry but nor is it very sweet. I’d happily have had another glass had there been time but sadly I had to go back to work.
