Aecorn and Soda

It’s definitely bitter!

I love that you can now get non-alcoholic spirits in little bottles: it makes them so much more accessible. I’ve been waiting to try this one but I didn’t want to buy a whole 75cl bottle, so I was pleased when this turned up in our Mindful Chef box.

I feel I should say first off that I don’t like Aperol or Negroni (I know, I’m not at all fashionable in my tastes), so I was hoping that this wouldn’t leave me disappointed.

Aecorn (from the people who make Seedlip) looks like Aperol and is rather similar in flavour and freshness, though I found it fruitier and much more flavourful. It’s got lovely orange-peel notes, herbal undertones and a good touch of sweetness, and I wouldn’t rule out having another one. But as with any bitters-based drink that I’ve tried, I’m not a huge fan of the aftertaste, which I find to be a bit sour and acrid.

So if you like Aperol or Negroni then I’d definitely give this a go. It’s got lots of good flavour and is hugely refreshing. A very good non-alcoholic option indeed and I hope to see it in more pubs soon.
