My name is Jessica and I like wine. A lot. I’m qualified to WSET Level 3 in Wines.
In 2018 I decided to give up alcohol for Lent. To make the weeks of abstinence more interesting, I decided to look around to see what non-alcoholic drinks were available and, in particular, whether anyone had made any good alcohol-free wines.
I had distant memories of Eisberg wine and Kaliber beer from the 1990’s and I wasn’t holding out much hope, so I was amazed to see that there was now a huge selection of non-alcoholic wines, beers and even spirits on the market and I set myself the task of trying as many of them as possible.
Then, in May 2018 I became pregnant so I redoubled my efforts to find something to help the months without wine filled with a wider variety of teetotal beverages.
Now, when I’m parenting, driving, tired or over-socialised or if I just don’t fancy getting tipsy, it’s good to have something to drink that isn’t a soft drink, squash or water.
So I’m continuing the search, in the hope that one day I will find that sober holy grail: a delicious, full-bodied, complex, non-alcoholic wine.
